1974-bmw-csi-coupe-1When did BMW become synonymous with sporty great-handling cars for drivers? You might look to the company’s CS models, produced in the late 1960s and early 1970s, for when the Bimmer became the “ultimate driving machine” and earned its reputation to conquer not only Lemans and Nürburgring, but also the daily commute. A great case in point is this 1974 B.M.W. 3.0 CSi on eBay motors. In 1972, BMW bored out the famed E9 coupe’s inline six-cylinder engine to three liters and added rear disc brakes. At that point, the car became known as the 3.0 CS. The Bosch D-Jetronic injected version became the 3.0 CSi, while the lightweight version of the CS was known as the 3.0 CSL. The CSL, known as the “homologation special,” was built with lightweight body panels, and glass, and was a highly successful European Touring racer in the mid-1970s. The CS models, the post-war standard for an elegant coupe with racing pedigree, are very desirable. The pillar-less roofline creates great proportions and beautiful flowing lines.  Those are further enhanced in this example by the air dam underneath the thin front bumper, and punctuated by the modern upgrades like the gorgeous BBS wheels. Only about 8,000 of the CSi were made between 1971 and 1974.
